“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:9-14)
i need to take a step back and clarify some of the statements that i wrote in the last lesson, The Conclusion of the Ages: Tribulation & Persecution – Part 1. A dear friend graciously replied to my posting and ‘spoke the truth in love’; i realized that what i had written was not exactly the thoughts i wanted to communicate. Just previous to the last lesson i had listed three purposes for this study, they are: To drive us back to the Word of God, to cause us to rethink what we have been taught & to prepare us for the days ahead. i hold that standard for myself, first and foremost, before expecting it from anyone else.
With that as the intro, let me cover the issues. First of all i stated, “Due to the Pre-Tribulation Rapture theory that was birthed in the late 1820’s* we in America (and i am sure other parts of the world) have come to believe that we will not face persecution, nor be present during the Great Tribulation.” In actuality, Darby revived the Pre-Trib view. It can be seen in the works of early Christian scholars, as well as by the Apostolic Fathers, within the theme of imminence.* A move back to the Pre-Trib view actually began in the 1700’s and Darby fleshed it out in the 1800’s.
Next, if i can summarize, my use of the current persecution that our brothers and sisters in Christ are going through was comparative to those who will face persecution during The Great Tribulation. This was not my intent. What is being faced right now will not compare with future events. i did not include a ‘Prophecy Point’ in the last lesson and i should have. The central theme was an attempt to warn those of us in America that we could soon be persecuted for our faith. Up to this point we have been sheltered from it. With that said, i do not want to imply that the tribulation we will face is part of The Great Tribulation, however, we need to be prepared to live and die for our faith.
Love & blessings!

* Imminence is defined as: Jesus could rapture his church at any moment.
